EMV Migration Forum Launches Extensive Resource Center for U.S. Chip Migration on EMV-Connection.com

PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., Sept. 4, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The EMV Migration Forum announced today the launch of its new Knowledge Center, an extensive online resource for all stakeholders moving to EMV chip technology in the U.S. Created by the Forum's Communication and Education Working Committee, the Knowledge Center organizes the growing number of available U.S. chip migration educational materials from across the Web into an interactive, searchable spreadsheet.

All stakeholders including merchants, issuers, consumers, manufacturers, ATM owners, journalists and acquirer/processors are invited to access the Knowledge Center at http://www.emv-connection.com/emv-migration-forum/knowledge-center/. Resources include white papers, guides, specifications, FAQs, press releases, articles and other materials focusing on U.S. chip migration, chip implementation, analyst reports and technology education.

"While knowledge and education are fundamental to every EMV chip migration, finding all the available resources can be difficult and time-consuming," Randy Vanderhoof, director of the EMV Migration Forum. "The Communication and Education Working Committee spent a tremendous amount of time researching and organizing U.S. chip migration materials from a variety of sources into this extensive Knowledge Center. Together, with the resources already available on the EMV Connection website, U.S. industry stakeholders now have a comprehensive website for all of their chip education needs."

The Knowledge Center is structured for easy navigation, allowing users to sort and search for resources. Each resource is categorized by column heading — Category, Stakeholder, Subtopic, Title and Author. Content categories include:

  • Customer Experience
  • Fraud & Security
  • Implementing EMV
  • Regulatory & Compliance
  • Technology
  • Testing & Certification
  • Training & Education

The Communication and Education Working Committee works to develop clear, consistent messaging that promotes an efficient, timely and effective migration to chip technology in the U.S. Other valuable resources the Committee has developed include the Standardization of Terminology document and the "Effective Communication Practices for U.S. Chip Migration" webinar. About U.S. Chip Migration

Commonly used globally in place of magnetic stripe, EMV chip technology helps to reduce card fraud in a face-to-face card-present environment; provides global interoperability; and enables safer transactions across contact and contactless channels. EMV implementation was initiated in the U.S. market in in 2011 and 2012 when American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa announced their roadmaps for supporting an EMV-based payments infrastructure. Acquirer processor readiness mandates to support EMV were established for 2013, with liability shifts for managing fraud risk in a face-to-face environment set for 2015.

About the EMV Migration Forum

The EMV Migration Forum is a cross-industry body focused on supporting the EMV implementation steps required for global and regional payment networks, issuers, processors, merchants, and consumers to help ensure a successful introduction of more secure EMV chip technology in the United States. The focus of the Forum is to address topics that require some level of industry cooperation and/or coordination to migrate successfully to EMV technology in the United States.
