PASADENA, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 15, 2014) - Two key executives representing the Federal agencies developing the next round of greenhouse gas standards for medium- and heavy-duty vehicles have been invited to address the High-Efficiency Truck Users Forum (HTUF) conference, planners announced today. David Friedman, Acting Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and Karl Simon, Director, Transportation and Climate Division, U.S. EPA Office of Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ) are expected to speak at the HTUF 2014 National Meeting (www.htuf2014.org) on Tuesday, September 23.
Mr. Simon will discuss key issues tied to the HD GHG Phase 2 rule currently under development between EPA, NHTSA and the California Air Resources Board, as well as the agency's work in the area of green freight and fuels. Earlier this year, President Barack Obama announced plans to develop and implement these new rules, which will affect how trucks and buses are built and how much fuel they use in 2019 and beyond. Heavy-duty vehicles account for about 20% of the nation's greenhouse gas emissions, and have major impacts on air quality nationwide.
The U.S. Department of Energy's Argonne National Laboratory will play host to the 12th annual gathering of companies developing and using high-efficiency truck and bus tech and vehicles. Meeting attendees will be treated to tours of the state-of-the-art laboratories at Argonne's Center for Transportation Research.
In addition to timely and action-oriented content, the HTUF 2014 National Meeting will provide ample networking opportunities and the famed HTUF Ride & Drive and Technology Parade, featuring the latest advanced technologies from AltE, Altec, AMP Electric Vehicles, Arens Controls, Crosspoint Kinetics, Lightning Hybrids, Motiv Power Systems, New Eagle, Odyne, VIA Motors, XL Hybrids, and Zenith Motors. At least two vehicles will make ride and drive debuts at the event, offering attendees and the media a first-glance at new cutting-edge efficient technologies.
