AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 5, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- An emergency veterinary clinic in Austin is announcing the addition of a new veterinarian to their team. Dr. Olivares joined the staff of Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin in September 2014, according to the clinic's owner and Chief of Staff, Dr. Scott I. Johnson. Dr. Johnson describes Dr. Olivares as a veterinarian with "Texas-centric" training and experience. Dr. Olivares received his B.S. degree in Biomedical Science, a Master of Wildlife Science degree, and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A&M University. The doctor practiced in the Dallas area for several years before relocating to Austin to become a part of the Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin team.
"Dr. Olivares has spent his entire professional education, training and career working with Texas pets. This is significant since animals in our state face certain specific health issues that might require emergency care," said Dr. Johnson. He cites heat stroke and snakebites as two examples. Heat stroke, he notes, is an all-too-common problem when Texas summertime temperatures routinely hover in the triple digits. Venomous snakes such as copperheads, rattlesnakes, and coral snakes are also found in Texas, and these creatures can inflict potentially deadly bites. Dr. Johnson states that Dr. Olivares' familiarity with the conditions that threaten Texas pets makes valuable in the clinic's efforts to help these animals when trouble strikes.
Dr. Olivares is also deeply involved in the veterinary community, according to Dr. Johnson. He is a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society (VECCS), an organization devoted to promoting the advancement of knowledge and high standards of practice in veterinary emergency and critical patient care. He also belongs to the Texas Veterinary Medical Association (TVMA), which seeks to serve both the veterinary community and the general public on animal health issues. Dr. Johnson points out this involvement complements the mission and philosophy of Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin. "We are dedicated to providing top-class emergency care using state-of-the-art techniques, equipment and knowledge, which is one reason Dr. Olivares is a perfect fit for our clients," he added.
Dr. Olivares is a proud pet owner himself, adds Dr. Johnson. He and his wife Tammy share their home with three dogs and two cats. "There's nothing like being a pet owner yourself to make you sensitive to your clients' feelings and point of view," he said.
