SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - Oct 9, 2014) - Commencing November 2014, Poway High School sophomore, Mason Kern, will serve as a "Teen Correspondent" for San Diego Living -- a one-hour local lifestyle show that airs live each weekday on XETV San Diego 6 (The CW) from 9am-10am immediately following the highly successful 5am-9am San Diego 6 in the Morning News.
San Diego Living covers topics that are fresh, fun, enlightening and local, encompassing health, cooking, entertainment, fashion, home improvement, travel and more. For his part, each month Mason will deliver a live, on-air "Kid's Scene San Diego with Mason Kern" report -- a segment covering noteworthy activities and events in San Diego County that are suitable for young children, teens and families. Mason's recurring segments will highlight many of the wonderful community activity options, appropriate for elementary through high school age children, that are available each month in San Diego -- and inform viewers on how they can get involved.
"I am ecstatic to work as a recurring guest with San Diego Living to deliver live news reports about the many exciting events and activities that make San Diego a great place to live and visit with children of all ages," said Mason, a perennial honor roll student, athlete and community volunteer who has his sights set on broadcast journalism for his collegiate studies and a television reporting career beyond. "While serving as a 'Teen Correspondent' with San Diego Living will undoubtedly be fun and rewarding in the near term, working with the professionals at XETV -- those on both sides of the camera -- will give me hands-on, real-world news reporting experience and skills that are invaluable as I work toward earning scholarships and attending a top University for broadcast journalism in just a few short years. For now, I am eager to deliver informative segments that the local community will find useful and enjoy."
"Mason is no stranger to local television," notes The Luxe List Executive Editor Merilee Kern, Mason's mother who -- as a nationally-regarded lifestyle expert and professional spokesperson -- regularly appears on television news programs in San Diego and beyond. "Mason has assisted with my own live television segments for many years -- everything from behind-the-scenes segment preparation to on-camera dialogue and modeling. Having been on-set many times observing the live morning news production in action, his passion for the broadcast reporting field has become palpable. Given how smart, articulate, tenacious and thorough he is, I have no doubt whatsoever Mason will exceed all expectations in his new role as a 'Teen Correspondent' with San Diego Living."
Mason is a member in good standing with the San Diego Press Club and the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS).
