TAIPEI, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - Nov 5, 2014) - The 27th Japan International Machine Tool Fair (JIMTOF) took place at Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Center between October 30th and November 4th, 2014, conveying the larger theme of "Fusion of craftsmanship and advanced technology Mono-Zukuri DNA connects to the Future and the World." A total of 644 companies from 25 countries such as Germany, USA, and Taiwan have participated in this event to showcase the most advanced machine tool and precision measurement technology.
The Ballscrew Preload Monitoring Technique developed by Advanced Institute of Manufacturing with High-tech Innovations (AIM-HI) and later transferred to Hiwin Technologies through industry-academia cooperative research project, was presented the first time at JIMTOF. Professor Chih-Chun Cheng of Department of Mechanical Engineering, National Chung Cheng University remarked that this technique can economically and effectively monitor the existence of ballscrew preload to ensure the precision level of machine tools during manufacturing. Its main application of the technique is in the feed-drive system that demands precise positioning, which is widely used in the machine tool industry as well as manufacturing industries such as automobiles, aerospace and semiconductor.
The AIM-Hi delegation to JIMTOF this year was led by Dr. Yeau-Ren Jeng, the Vice-President of CCU and Director of AIM-HI. The delegation was partly supported by both the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Hiwin Technologies in Taiwan. Besides participating in the major events of JIMTOF, the delegation took time to visit Institute of Industrial Science of The University of Tokyo and discuss the possibility of future collaboration. Members of the delegation also visited Yamazaki Mazak Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation to learn about the latest development and trend of new technology.
AIM-HI has thus far carried out and implemented an Academic TDP project over the last three years with substantial funding from the government. In addition, the industry-academia cooperative research project with Hiwin Technologies has entered its third year. As pointed out by Professor Chih-Chun Cheng, "Through the R&D capacity of faculty members and graduate students, and the hands-on participation of cooperation, both parties can learn and benefit from each other and gain invaluable experiences to further enhance the quality of advanced research in the educational setting."
About AIM-HI at CCU, Taiwan
The Advanced Institute for Manufacturing with High-tech Innovations (AIM-HI) at the National Chung Cheng University (CCU) was established in 2011 under the auspices of Aim for Top Universities Project funded by the Ministry of Education, Taiwan. The long-term mission of AIM-HI is to conduct cutting-edge research in green and intelligent manufacturing systems on the one hand, and to develop key technologies from these areas of research for industrial application on the other. To achieve these goals, AIM-HI has taken the full advantage afforded by its location in the middle of a robust industrial corridor, stretching from the cluster of precision machinery in Taichung to the center of heavy industries in Kaohsiung, along the western coast of Taiwan. In the process, AIM-HI not only has forged strong alliances between academia and industry but also has established educational platforms for incubating and nurturing young talents of the next generation, on both domestic and international fronts. Furthermore, within the short period since its inception, AIM-HI has substantially expanded its global footprint via collaboration of research projects with both national and international partners, exchange and visiting programs of scholars and students, short-term research initiatives, and industrial incubation projects, etc. In other words, AIM-HI has successfully adopted a multi-axis strategy and executed a mutually reinforcing approach to research, industrial application, and education in order to promote its global connection and influence.
