SANTA BARBARA, CA--(Marketwired - Nov 6, 2014) - RightScale® Inc., a demonstrated leader in enterprise cloud portfolio management, today announced new capabilities to automate and streamline the process of cloud-enabling existing vSphere environments. IT can now offer access to existing vSphere templates and resources through an easy-to-use self-service portal.
RightScale is a pioneer in the cloud management space and continues to innovate, broadening its suite of solutions over the last 12 months to include Self-Service, vSphere integration, and Cloud Analytics.
Leveraging the RightScale Cloud Appliance for vSphere, enterprises can now automatically discover and add cloud-like constructs to vSphere resources, managing them through a single pane of glass alongside public and private clouds. In addition, enterprises can import existing virtual machine images into the RightScale Self-Service Catalog and offer on-demand provisioning to internal developers and cloud users.
Introducing Virtual Automation
Together, these new features provide enterprises with a faster path to self-service access for virtualized environments, often called virtual automation. The goal of virtual automation is to speed deployment of frequently used workloads, such as those for development, testing, training, and demos.
According to the September 22, 2014 Gartner report entitled "Virtual Automation: "Just Enough" Private Cloud", Alan Waite writes: "Virtual automation of the most deployed workloads is often the best first step in an internal private cloud implementation. In fact, virtual automation alone is enough for many organizations, eliminating the need for a fully featured internal private cloud."
In July 2014, RightScale released its Cloud Appliance for vSphere, offering enterprises a way to add cloud-like constructs, such as zones, tenants, instance types, volume types, and networks, to vSphere virtualized environments.
New features in the latest release of RightScale Cloud Appliance for vSphere include:
- Expanded tenancy options with cloud-like "zones" as well as quotas to manage usage of various teams or applications.
- Support for policies that govern storage, enabling enforcement of SLAs or Quality of Service requirements.
- Support for vSAN datastores.
Hybrid Architecture Goes Mainstream
Enterprises are increasingly looking for technologies that efficiently enable hybrid clouds. According to the 2014 RightScale State of the Cloud report, hybrid and multi-cloud implementations continue to be the end goal for the enterprise: 74 percent of enterprise respondents have a multi-cloud strategy, and 48 percent are planning for hybrid clouds.
