ROCHESTER, N.Y., Nov. 19, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Health care is one of the most complex and constantly evolving industries in business today. Recognizing the need for leaders who have an in-depth understanding of the industry, the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester is launching a new Master of Science in Health Care Management (MS HCM) in New York City. The part-time, specialized program is structured for Tri-state area health care professionals who are seeking an accelerated graduate health care management degree at a convenient midtown Manhattan location.

The 13-month program is designed for working professionals with at least five years of post-baccalaureate work experience, ideally in the health care industry. The ideal candidate will have recently entered or are about to enter a management-level role, typically in clinical, administrative or research disciplines. The program combines an understanding of the underlying economics that drive industry evolution with core business management and operations skills. This knowledge allows graduates to evaluate their organization and optimize health care delivery, while preparing for the next change to occur.

Consisting of 12 courses (three credit hours each), classes are held on alternate weekends at the Simon School's NYC facility at 1601 Broadway. Six core courses provide a solid foundation in economics, strategic decision-making, accounting, and finance. The core curriculum is complemented by six health care courses covering key topics including: industry structure and reform, financing, insurance, operations, information technology, investments, and entrepreneurism in medical services and devices. The program also includes two residency weeks (one at the beginning of the program and one at the end) at the University of Rochester main campus. Financial aid and merit scholarships are available, as well as potential for credit towards Continuing Medical Education (CME). Classes will start in July, 2015 and the deadline for applications is June 1, 2015.
To provide NYC health care organizations a preview of the MS-HCM program content, a special monthly NYC seminar series on key industry topics is being held in conjunction with Simon faculty and experts from the University of Rochester Medical Center.
