Lubrizol Introduces the Era of Efficiency at the 10th ICIS Pan American
Base Oils & Lubricants Conference

CLEVELAND, December 9, 2014 - The Lubrizol Corporation shared future-looking market perspectives and its expertise on how to address new global emissions challenges at the 10th ICIS Pan American Base Oils & Lubricants Conference in Jersey City, N.J., on Dec. 4-5, 2014. Bringing together more than 300 international and domestic attendees from over 30 countries, ICIS is the premier base oils and lubricants conference in the United States and is a chance to gain unmatched insights on driving trends and critical issues from prominent industry decision makers.

Featured was "The Era of Efficiency: Trends and Implications," a presentation from Lubrizol's  Owen Wyrley-Birch, global business manager for Passenger Car Engine Oils, in which he discussed the opportunities and challenges of an increasingly environmentally minded automotive industry. Wyrley-Birch touched on how environmental concerns continue to change the face of the industry, from advances in engine hardware to the lubricants that enable top performance.

"Emissions limits drive hardware and potential fuel changes-CO2 levels are at their highest recorded levels, and it's important for our industry to understand exactly what's coming our way and what we can do about it," Wyrley-Birch says. "For oil marketers, there is potential for many new products and additional services to offer; for consumers, their vehicles will work harder, for longer, and will become better for the environment."

Additionally featured at ICIS was Lubrizol's Curt Scharf, global business manager, Industrial Products. Scharf's presentation, "Additives for the Americas Industrial Lubricant Market," discussed worldwide additive and base oil consumption and future implications.

"Advanced OEM hardware design will continue to require heightened lubricant performance-and additives are a major part of that equation," Scharf said. "Simultaneously, formulators' toolboxes continue to shrink for varying reasons-regulatory complexities, raw materials availability and more. And that means the development of robust additive technology will become more challenging."

Lubrizol's participation in 2014 ICIS is part of the company's deep-rooted commitment to offering unique industry perspectives and sharing its market knowledge with its partners. Through its industry-leading expertise and advanced line of products, Lubrizol Additives and its partners can achieve Success Together.

Owen Wyrley-Birch is Global Business Manager, passenger car engine oils for Lubrizol. He has served in various roles throughout his 25-year history with the company, and is based in Singapore. He holds a degree in mechanical engineering from Kingston University in London.
