Arkansas Invitational and Arkansas-Texas Dual to be run on Mondo Super X Performance track

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark., Jan. 9, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Today and next Friday, Jan. 16, the University of Arkansas will host two indoor track meets at the Randal Tyson Track Center: the Arkansas Invitational and the Arkansas-Texas Dual. Both competitions will be held on a track with a Super X Performance surface by Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets.

In today's Arkansas Invitational, around 400 athletes from southern universities will compete while during the Jan. 16 Arkansas-Texas Dual, 60 athletes from these rival schools will face off.

The 200-meter indoor track at the Randal Tyson Track Center is the same track system built by Mondo for the 1993 IAAF World Indoor Championships in Toronto; it is still widely regarded as the fastest indoor track system ever built. Following the 1993 IAAF meet, the system was disassembled and stored until the Arkansas athletic department purchased it and took it to Fayetteville in 1999. Following years of use at the Division I university, the track system was ready to be refurbished. So in 2010, Mondo completed the task, which included resurfacing it with the company's Super X Performance surface.

Arkansas will host nine indoor track meets this season including the SEC Championship in February and the 2015 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in March. The NCAA indoor championships have been held at the university 11 times since 2000.

The world's top track for more than 30 years, the renowned Super X Performance track is recognized around the world as one of the fastest, most durable and environmentally safest tracks available. An official track of eight Olympic Games through 2004 and the competition track from 1992 to 2004 (Mondo's Mondotrack was the competition track of the 2008 Beijing and 2012 London Olympics), Super X Performance was designed to provide consistent performance throughout its life. Ideal for both training and high-performance competition, the track is renowned for its shock absorption and optimal energy return, and its ideal blend of speed and comfort minimizes the occurrence of injuries.

More than 230 world records have been set on tracks made by Mondo, including five at the Beijing Olympics and three at the London Games.
