Shoppers trying to decide between a "car", "crossover", or "SUV" now have a choice that can tick every box on their wish list. Today, at the Montréal Autoshow, Volkswagen Canada proudly unveiled the all-new Golf Sportwagon.
Based upon Volkswagen's latest "MQB Platform", the newest member of the Golf family delivers all of the driving enjoyment of its hatchback brethren in a package that allows even more cargo to come along for the ride.
Outside, the Sportwagon has been boldly restyled with sculpted lines and timeless appeal. The complete absence of clutter in the design lends a very business-like appearance. High-strength steel has been used throughout the body, increasing rigidity and improving safety and handling without adding weight.
The Golf Sportwagon is powered by a choice of engines and transmissions. A 1.8L direct-injected turbocharged engine with 170 hp and 184 lb. ft of torque is the "standard" engine. It delivers outstanding performance and excellent fuel efficiency. For long-distance travellers, Volkswagen's 2.0 TDI Clean Diesel remains the engine of choice, and its 236 lb. ft of torque ensures that efficiency does not come at the expense of driveability.
Inside, the materials and fit and finish would not be out of place in a luxury car, offering driver and passengers ample space in a very accommodating environment. Features like Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity, Satellite radio, and a 5.8" touchscreen interface are all standard, as are heated front seats, a rear-view camera, and automatic post-collision braking, which minimizes the risk of a subsequent crash. The available options will allow Canadians to customize the Golf Sportwagon to suit their own personal tastes.
The all-new Golf Sportwagon is now available to order with a starting price of just $22,495.
