BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Jan. 21, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Altec's Chairman and CEO, Lee Styslinger III announced today his support of President Obama's commitment to a pro-trade agenda and has asked the President to work with Congress toward quick passage of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation.
Styslinger is a member of the Trade Benefits America Coalition, a broad-based group of U.S. business leaders who are encouraging Congress and the Obama Administration to move TPA legislation forward in an expedited manner. Congress last enacted TPA in 2002, and it expired in 2007.
"We are in complete agreement with the position that President Obama shared in last night's State of the Union address on the critical importance of Trade Promotion Authority and the positive impact it will have on job creation and economic growth in the U.S.," said Styslinger. "International trade currently supports more than 38 million American jobs and TPA would substantially increase employment growth in the U.S. by helping to open foreign markets to American goods and services. We call on Congress and the President to work together so that America can negotiate and put in place trade agreements that eliminate unfair trade barriers and level the playing field for goods manufactured in the U.S."
Styslinger was a key member of President George W. Bush's Export Council and was responsible for advising the President on government policies and programs that affect U.S. trade performance and export expansion opportunities.
