JOHNSTOWN, Pa., Feb. 6, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Saturday, February 21, 2015, a premiere showing of the Sgt. Michael Strank Documentary – Our Flag Still Waves, will be held at the Cambria County War Memorial Arena, Johnstown, PA at 2:00 in the afternoon. This event is opened to the public and organizers are hoping for a large attendance - including members of the military, the Strank family members and other distinguished guests.
The documentary is very significant to our area. Sgt. Michael Strank, "a Marine's Marine," grew up just outside of Johnstown in Franklin Borough, and led the group of soldiers raising the American flag atop Mt. Suribachi on the island of Iwo Jima in 1945.
The project was a 2 phase project. The first phase was the erection of a monument at Veteran's Memorial Park in Franklin Borough on Nov.8, 2014 and will be dedicated on February 23, 2015, the 70th Anniversary of the raising of the flag on Iwo Jima. Phase 2 is a documentary of Sgt. Michael Strank's life growing up in Franklin Borough and his life in the military.
