ALEXANDRIA, VA--(Marketwired - Feb 9, 2015) - Phase2 today announced the launch of the new USPTO.gov, a revamped version of the United States Patent & Trademark Office's old website. Phase2 led the development of the new USPTO.gov. The site is built on Drupal, the open source content management system (CMS) used by numerous other federal agencies, including the Department of Energy, the White House, and most recently the Department of Interior. Phase2 was tasked with creating a new website to allow USPTO to modernize its web content management platform and better serve its broad user base.
"As the agency that protects and invests in innovation and creativity, USPTO is at the cutting edge of the nation's progress and achievement," said Jeff Walpole, CEO of Phase2. "Phase2 is committed to advancing innovative technology, so we are proud to have had a chance to work with USPTO on this important effort."
Developed by Phase2 in partnership with Salient Federal Solutions, the new website offers a clean, responsive design, as well as a simple and intuitive process for common visitor activities. Navigation tools have eased the process of searching for patents or trademarks, checking on the status of an application, or filing new applications. The site's copious resources for inventors, patent agents, teachers, and children are also more accessible via the new navigation system.
Most noteworthy is USPTO's innovative approach to agency platform performance. By using an innovative approach designed for this project, the agency can take advantage of Drupal's powerful content management capabilities while simultaneously publishing the site to the public as static HTML. In effect, this approach mitigates many of the risks associated with both managing and delivering content.
"Building on Phase2's extensive experience developing open source content management systems for federal agencies, we were able to create a powerful solution for USPTO," said Greg Wilson, Director of Government Practice at Phase2. "The new USPTO.gov is impressive not only for the usability improvements for site visitors, but greater ease of use for agency administrators."
Today's official launch follows USPTO's BETA launch in December, in which the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office opened up the BETA version to the public, highlighting new features and encouraging feedback.
