HOUSTON, March 11, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Pura Vida Tequila Company proudly announced its acquisition of the state-of-the-art Xamay Distillery in Jalisco, Mexico barely five years after creating its award-winning flavor profiles at an Arandas based facility nearby. Commenting on the move, former Patrón insider and current Pura Vida Operations Director Modesto Nunez said, "Without your own distillery, you can only go so far. Now the sky's the limit for Pura Vida."
Efforts to either buy shares of the Arandas facility, or build an entirely new facility from the ground up, fell short of satisfying the growing needs of the steadily developing brand. Increasing production demands combined with a rare opportunity to secure a controlling interest in a world class, thoroughly modern distillery left Pura Vida Tequila Founder and CEO Stewart Skloss with an easy decision to upgrade from the humble Arandas facility, with the added bonus of being several years ahead of schedule. Said Skloss, "This acquisition puts us on a more level playing field with our larger competitors, maximizing profit margins is quite a challenge, with our own distillery we can better focus on the bigger picture."
Relocating his closely guarded flavor profiles from the small family operation where it all began was one of many steps in securing a new production facility capable of the kind of growth and vision The Pura Vida Tequila Company needs to feed the global demand for Pura Vida's award-winning tequilas and other fine beverages. This move opens the door for Pura Vida to expand into the private label market, as well as adding capabilities for rum, vodka, and whiskey.
Situated next to a Mexican Army base, this new distillery has an estimated replacement cost of between twenty and twenty-five million dollars, and with international distribution looming on the horizon and the prospect of additional spirits and complements not far behind, the timing of this improvement in facilities and capabilities couldn't have been better. Production and supply were largely uninterrupted as Skloss made a seamless transition into the 54,000 square foot manufacturing facility capable of ensuring the integrity of The Pura Vida Tequila Company's exacting standards. Located on 360,000 square feet of land near beautiful Lake Chapala, the Xamay Distillery stands ready to make 2015 Pura Vida's best year ever.
