CHICAGO, March 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- MSDSonline, the leading provider of cloud-based environmental, health and safety (EHS) management solutions, is taking the lead this Spring in educating EHS professionals across the country on OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard (HazCom) and its alignment with the United Nations Globally Harmonized System (GHS). In addition to exhibiting at industry conferences, and providing complimentary webinars through its EHS blog, MSDSonline is speaking on GHS at a number of state, regional, and national conferences in 2015.
"Educating safety professionals on GHS is particularly important now as we inch closer to OSHA's June 1, 2015 GHS compliance deadline — it is arguably the most high-profile and important change to OSHA's HazCom Standard in decades," said Glenn Trout, president and CEO of MSDSonline. "Given our experience helping companies manage their chemicals to meet HazCom compliance, and seeing first-hand the strategies that work best, we feel a duty to share GHS related news and industry best practices with as many safety professionals as we can."
GHS is a model HazCom system that can be adopted by countries and agencies with jurisdiction over hazardous chemicals. It is currently undergoing adoption by over 65 countries. By June 1, 2015, chemical manufacturers, distributors and importers covered by the Hazard Communication Standard must classify their hazardous chemicals using OSHA's newly adopted GHS criteria and update corresponding labels and safety data sheets in the GHS format. There is a number of cascading responsibilities employers and others in the chemical pipeline need to take on as a result.
MSDSonline will be delivering presentations on GHS and HazCom at the following conferences in coming weeks:
- March 18, Western New York Safety Conference in Niagara Falls, NY
- March 18, Arizona NSC Conference, Mesa, AZ
- March 26, Alaska GOSH, Alaska, Anchorage, AK
- March 31, NSC Texas Safety Conference & Expo, Austin, TX
- April 1, Ohio Safety Congress & Expo, Columbus, OH
Trout said, "Our experience on the topic of HazCom and GHS has allowed us to create a comprehensive presentation that provides busy safety professionals — who are already tasked with managing dozens of other government-imposed regulations and corporate policies — with a relatively brief, yet comprehensive, targeted, workshop on HazCom, GHS, the changes in store to HazCom as a result of GHS adoption, and what they need to do to comply with the impending deadlines."
