BCC Software Director of Architecture Receives Award for Contributions to Mailing Industry

Shawn Baldwin honored with IDEAlliance Circle of Excellence Award for Leadership in Transformative Mail.XML Specification

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 24, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- BCC Software™, a leader in postal products and data marketing services, is proud to announce that Director of Architecture Shawn Baldwin has been awarded the prestigious IDEAlliance® Circle of Excellence award. The award was presented today at the Print Distribution 2015 conference in Clearwater, Florida. Mr. Baldwin was nominated by his peers from across the industry earlier this year and selected for the honor in recognition of his leadership in development of the Mail.XML™, an industry standard for streamlining communication between the mailing industry and United States Postal Service® through standardized, automated methods that save time, money, and improve overall mail acceptance.

BCC Software President Chris Lien is proud of Shawn's recognition for his continued contributions to this important industry specification. "Shawn's dedication to the mailing industry and IDEAlliance is evidenced in his active participation and leadership in numerous IDEAlliance workgroups and specification committees including Mail.XML, Mail.dat, Mailing Software Development Group, and the Postal Operations and Technology Committee. He has been active in the mailing industry for well over a decade and we are pleased to have him as part of the BCC Software team."

Mail.XML is a common communication standard that enables automated notification of mailing details from mail preparers to the United States Postal Service. Postal preparation packages that support the Mail.XML standard, like BCC Mail Manager, increase efficiency and reduce costly errors by removing manual entry of mailing details in favor of automated communication. The result of this nearly real time accurate communication is streamlined mail acceptance and lower processing costs for both mailers and the USPS®. With the help of industry leaders like Mr. Baldwin, the Mail.XML standard continues to evolve to address the evolving needs of the industry and will soon include advanced features such as postage payment and automated verification.

In presenting the award, David Steinhardt, President & CEO, IDEAlliance, said, "Shawn has been instrumental since the work of Mail.XML began in 2004 with an XML application for transportation messaging within PostalOne! and our first published specification in 2006. Mail.XML now has a suite of extensive business mailing transactions. Over many years, he is a singular leader guiding the development of Mail.XML with the U.S. Postal Service. On behalf of IDEAlliance, I thank Shawn and BCC Software for their support of best practices in the mailing industry."

Shawn Baldwin has been with BCC software since 1995. He has served as the IDEAlliance chair for Mail.XML since 2011 and actively participates in numerous industry working groups. Shawn has a Ph.D. in Nuclear Chemistry and is BCC Software's Director of Software Architecture for their postal software product line.
