VANCOUVER, BC--(Marketwired - Apr 9, 2015) - ActiveState today announced that Service-Flow, a leading provider of Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) for IT service integration, successfully deploys software updates multiple times per day utilizing Stackato, achieving 99.999% availability and 400% faster deployment times.
Service-Flow recognized the need for a Platform as a Service (PaaS) solution to accelerate its deployment pipeline and enable greater focus on development, with the goal of getting their service to market as quickly as possible. The company started with CloudBees hosted (public) PaaS, but found that it did not provide sufficient access to the underlying infrastructure, creating security and availability challenges.
After evaluating alternative PaaS offerings, Service-Flow chose Stackato because it supported their choice of programming languages and tools; facilitated agile development practices such as continuous delivery and microservices architecture; and could be hosted on any cloud infrastructure, including Amazon Web Services (AWS) for region-specific data storage within the jurisdiction of the European Union.
Utilizing Stackato's blue-green deployment capabilities, Service-Flow is able to push frequent updates with no maintenance windows. In addition, Stackato simplifies the configuration of numerous development environments, making it possible for Service-Flow to easily manage over 60 customer-facing applications composed of tens of independent microservices.
"PaaS has made it possible for us to deploy updates without downtime, which is crucial for meeting our availability target of 99.9% by a few nines," says Kai Virkki, Chief Architect, Service-Flow. "We've built our deployment pipeline to use the blue-green deployment model, which is well supported with Stackato." Adds Virkki, "Without a PaaS, it would take us at least a month to develop the number of updates that we currently deploy in one week... With Stackato, we usually deploy tens of applications at a time and deploy updates every day, even many times per day."
"We are proud of the key role Stackato plays in Service-Flow's success," comments Bart Copeland, President and CEO, ActiveState. "Stackato enables a new application delivery model to keep up with the pace of change, empowering companies to focus on innovating rather than worrying about infrastructure. Service-Flow's success is an excellent example of how agile companies are utilizing Stackato to get their innovative ideas to market quickly and easily."
Service-Flow's engineering team set up their development environment on a free 20GB Stackato cluster without requiring any assistance. They have since built out additional clusters for testing and production, and have integrated numerous additional services with Stackato, including MongoDB (databases), CloudBees Jenkins for continuous integration and Papertrail for log analysis, connected to Stackato's Logyard streaming system.
