TNT Moving Systems Exposes Identify Theft Techniques and How to Prevent It

T-N-T Moving Systems offers tips on how to prevent identity theft during a move. As trusted moving experts in the Charlotte region, T-N-T offers a unique perspective on identity theft techniques.

Charlotte NC, April 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Moving is one of those dreaded tasks that everyone faces at some point in their lives. Organizing the move: the planning, packing, loading, and unloading, is an exhausting undertaking. And nowadays, protecting one's identity during a move is another thing to worry about. "Moving makes us more vulnerable to identity theft because personal information is being shuffled around," explains Todd Koepke, co-owner of T-N-T Moving Systems, "Your information is susceptible to dumpster divers, sketchy movers, the new residents or contractors."

According to Identity Guard, moving is a prime time for identity theft "because people may be more focused on how they're going to get their couches into their new apartments, and not about the safety of their bank statements, many may be vulnerable to identity fraud and other scams."

T-N-T Moving Systems has developed a system to help their clients stay protected from identity theft. "It starts with hiring reputable movers to do the job," says Todd. "Movers need to be trusted to transport all of your belonging to your new home, but also trusted not to jot down your personal information and steal your good credit." They recommend doing research to find a mover that is vetted. "We've been in this business for 20 years; we aren't a fly by night company like so many cheap movers out there." Especially if the moving company is helping pack up belongings, be extra cautious before picking a moving company.

Movers need to stay vigilant to avoid a costly identity breach. T-N-T reminds its clients about the importance of protecting their mail. "We've all received mail that wasn't addressed to us. Unfortunately, most residents just toss these into the trash, leaving your information vulnerable to dumpster divers looking to steal your identity."

T-N-T recommends that their clients make a change of address checklist. Be sure to include all companies, institutions, and subscriptions on the checklist including schools, former employers, banks, credit card companies, and magazines. Or fill out a change-of-address form at the post office. This can be done online as well, but T-N-T warns against fraudulent websites that offer these services. The official US postal service website is www.usps.gov. Fill out the form at least 10 days before the scheduled move.

Another tip that T-N-T recommends is to transport sensitive documents containing personal, financial or medical information in your own vehicle instead of on the moving truck. These documents could be wills, birth certificates, financial records, insurance statements or medical records.

Finally, T-N-T suggests that their clients follow up on their accounts after the move. "Even if you are careful before and during your move, be sure to check up after the move," says Tom Tulowiecki. Keep track of activity on accounts and check your credit report after the move.

Although moving can be a stressful event, following these tips can help reduce unnecessary stress. T-N-T Moving Systems have been moving people in and out of the Charlotte area for twenty years. They offer local and long distance moving services along with packing, storing, and insurance.
