U.S. Patent No. 8971193, issued on March 3, 2015, describes a method to determine media paths in a SIP network using information from endpoints and intermediate devices. The patent allows a central call analyzer (or Edgewater Networks EdgeMarc monitoring and management software such as EdgeView) to match call path legs through the full path of two edge devices (such as the EdgeMarc), resulting in a report containing information such as MOS scores, call quality, call type, and SIP details. Without this development, customers would be unable to generate accurate statistics and meaningful data to assess the quality of their session border controllers.
