Teaching Matters Celebrates 20th Anniversary at Tweed Courthouse

Honors Founder Elizabeth Rohatyn

NEW YORK, May 4, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- WHAT: Teaching Matters is marking twenty years of service to schoolchildren, teachers and schools. We will be celebrating our beginnings, and saluting our visionary founder, Elizabeth Rohatyn. The evening event will feature very brief speeches and two student performances.

WHY: Two decades ago, Elizabeth Rohatyn realized that boosting teacher quality was central to giving all children an excellent education and closing the achievement gap. That understanding is still at the core of the professional learning and support for educators that we provide. Over time, we've worked in nearly 1000 schools, touching over 30,000 teachers, affecting hundreds of thousands of children.

WHO: Teaching Matters' staff, board, honorary event chairs, the Rohatyn family, personnel from the New York City DOE, students and staff from Chelsea Career & Technical Education High School and P.S. 5 Port Morris, and other supporters and guests.

WHEN: 6:30-8:00 p.m.

WHERE: The Tweed Courthouse (New York Department of Education headquarters), 52 Chambers Street, New York, NY 10007

Teaching Matters is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing teacher effectiveness, one of the most critical factors in student success. Our services transform how educators work together at urban public schools, helping the most effective teachers develop the skills they need to lead their peers and drive school-wide improvement. We also partner with school leadership to create a work environment that equips teachers to succeed in the classroom. From nearly 20 years of working in New York City's public schools, we've developed an understanding of realistic and lasting ways to improve student outcomes, and we're committed to real, measurable results.
