The New Jersey Hall of Fame and the New Jersey Education Association Announce the Arete Scholarship Fund

Scholarships Awarded to New Jersey High School Students Graduating in 2016

TRENTON, N.J., May 18, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The New Jersey Hall of Fame (NJHOF) and the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) announce the establishment of the Arête Scholarship Fund, which will present an award to one deserving male and female high school student graduating in 2016. Each recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship from the New Jersey Hall of Fame.

Referring to Plato's 3000 year old principle promoting the actualization of one's highest sense of self, Arête conceptualizes the individual striving to pursue passions in life, and realizing dreams regardless of circumstances and adversities that can often thwart the path to greatness.

The successful recipients embody the meaning of Arête, and will distinguish themselves as New Jerseyans who are on their way to realizing their dreams. The NJHOF Arête Scholarship Award will be one of the highest honors that the NJHOF & the State of New Jersey can bestow upon a student. In addition to the scholarship, each student will be recognized at the NJHOF's annual induction ceremony.

"Arête scholarship recipients are those who are pursuing their highest sense of self," commented Steve Edwards, president of the New Jersey Hall of Fame Foundation Board. "We want to encourage students to pursue excellence just as those who have been inducted in the NJ Hall of Fame."

Wendell Steinhauer, who is a high school mathematics teacher in Riverside public schools as well as president of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) also stated, "The Arête Scholarship Fund is a wonderful opportunity for students to see that with hard work and determination, the fulfillment of dreams is possible. The NJEA is very excited about this new program, and we hope that this scholarship fund will inspire our students and ignite more enthusiasm here in New Jersey."
