Smart Card Alliance to Host Webinar on Host Card Emulation to Educate Industry on Secure NFC Mobile Architecture Possibilities

PRINCETON JUNCTION, N.J., May 20, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Host card emulation (HCE) supporters see the technology as providing a new architecture for implementing NFC mobile, payment and other secure applications, but there are still many questions. To answer these questions, the Smart Card Alliance will host an HCE webinar next month. Topics will include an overview of HCE, security implementation considerations, examples of HCE use cases and implementation challenges.

"Host Card Emulation: An Emerging Architecture for NFC Applications," a webinar hosted by the Smart Card Alliance's Mobile and NFC Council, will take place on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 1:00 pm ET (10:00 am PT). To register, visit https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/15280279415829250. This webinar is an ideal educational resource for issuers, mobile wallet providers, merchants, transit agencies, and any other stakeholders implementing, or considering implementing, an HCE application.

"HCE has been viewed as a way to simplify NFC deployments, but many questions remain as to what HCE is, how it works, how HCE implementations address security, and what the key HCE use cases are," said Randy Vanderhoof, executive director of the Smart Card Alliance. "This webinar will help attendees to better understand how to use HCE, what its strengths and limitations are, and how it may be implemented for secure NFC applications."

The one-hour webinar will discuss HCE at a non-technical management level, and will:

  • Educate the audience on what HCE is and how it has evolved; how it works; how it differs from a secure element implementation
  • Describe security approaches that can be used to mitigate HCE-related risks
  • Discuss real-world implementations where HCE has been used, including payment and non-payment use cases

Webinar speakers include Randy Vanderhoof, Smart Card Alliance; Sadiq Mohammed, MasterCard; Peter Helderman, UL; and Sree Swaminathan, First Data.

As part of its ongoing efforts to provide education regarding the uses of smart card technology, the Smart Card Alliance has published additional educational resources on HCE, including the white paper, "HCE 101," which can be downloaded at http://www.smartcardalliance.org/publications-host-card-emulation-101/.

The Smart Card Alliance will hold its annual NFC Solutions Summit on Oct. 7-8, 2015 at the Arizona Grand Resort, Phoenix. Speaking proposals are currently being accepted through May 22. For more conference and submission details, visit www.nfcsolutionssummit.com.
