FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla., June 09, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- According to the American Cancer Society, 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer in her lifetime. In an effort to empower women to make the best choices for their care, the Women’s Choice Award (WCA) has recognized an elite group of less than 340 hospitals as America’s Best Hospitals for Cancer Care.
Awarded hospitals have met the following criteria:
- Accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer
- Participation in clinical trials and research
- Received above average patient recommendation ratings from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
- Consideration of available chemotherapy, radiation and hospice services on site
- Satisfactory clinical performance with regard to patient safety measures
“Women have choices when it comes to cancer care, but now they can make informed choices based on rigorous evidence based criteria,” said Delia Passi, Founder of the Women’s Choice Award. “As a cancer survivor who faced a challenging journey to recovery, I wish I had the WCA as a resource to spare me unnecessary fret and error,” added Passi.
