WASHINGTON, DC, June 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The U.S. Senate today rejected an effort to table consideration of an amendment reauthorizing the Export-Import Bank of the United States. The bank's charter expires June 30. The amendment to reauthorize the Export-Import Bank was offered by Sen. Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) He offered the amendment to H.R. 1735, the National Defense Authorization Act for FY2016. This reaction to the Senate vote comes from the Nuclear Energy Institute's vice president for supplier and international programs, Daniel Lipman.
"The Nuclear Energy Institute welcomes today's show of support for the Export-Import Bank. The Export-Import Bank is one of the country's most important tools to increase exports and create jobs. It is vital to U.S. competitiveness in the global nuclear energy market. Without the Ex-Im Bank, U.S. exports to the large and growing global market for nuclear energy would plummet.
"NEI thanks the many senators who supported the Export-Import Bank today. The nuclear energy industry will continue to work with a sense of urgency with members of Congress on both sides of the aisle to reauthorize the bank for the betterment of the U.S. economy."
