WALTHAM, MA--(Marketwired - June 15, 2015) - Elsevier, a world-leading provider of scientific, technical and medical information products and services, today announced the publication of six new chemical engineering books, including Direct Microbial Conversion of Biomass to Advanced Biofuels edited by Michael Himmel. This book brings to the forefront the latest research and experiments in an important new field in biochemical engineering: the consolidated conversion of lignocellulosic feedstocks to advanced fuels. The six new chemical engineering titles are among the books featured in the Elsevier booth # 310 at NAM24, the 24th North American Meeting (NAM) of the North American Catalysis Society, June 14-19, in Pittsburgh, Penn.
In order to meet content needs in growing areas of research and development such as catalysis, Elsevier uses proprietary tools to gain unique visibility into the world's research trends to identify the gaps between industry research now and emerging areas of scientific inquiry. Editorial teams strategically fill those gaps with content written by key influencers in the field, giving researchers the content they need to answer challenging questions and improve research outcomes. These new books providing required knowledge in underlying, background systems of chemical engineering are key examples.
Direct Microbial Conversion of Biomass to Advanced Biofuels has contributions from leaders in the field that provide numerous examples and insights into the most important aspects of the consolidated conversion of lignocellulosic feedstocks to advanced fuels. The book presents the newest ideas, well-designed experiments and outcomes, as well as outstanding illustrations from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and contributing researchers.
During his 33 years at the NREL, Dr. Himmel has worked to support many technical and scientific aspects of the U.S. Department of Energy Biomass Program. More recently, he has been responsible for establishing the facilities and staff necessary to pursue projects in protein engineering, computational science, advanced imaging, and systems biology. Dr. Himmel currently manages the award-winning Biomolecular Sciences Group in the Bioscience Center and serves NREL as a Research Fellow.
The six new chemical engineering books are:
- Direct Microbial Conversion of Biomass to Advanced Biofuels edited by Michael Himmel
- Catalysis by Materials with Well-Defined Structures edited by Zili Wu and Steven Overbury
- Recent Advances in Thermochemical Conversion of Biomass edited by Ashok Pandey, Thallada Bhaskar, Michael Stöcker and Rajeev Sukumaran
- Carbonic Anhydrases as Biocatalysts: From Theory to Medical and Industrial Applications edited by Claudiu Supuran and Giuseppina De Simone
- Industrial Biorefineries & White Biotechnology edited by Ashok Pandey, Rainer Hofer, Christian Larroche, Mohammad Taherzadeh and Madhavan Nampoothiri
- Biochemical Engineering and Biotechnology, 2nd Edition by Ghasem Najafpour
At the NAM24 conference, Dr. Zili Wu, editor of Catalysis by Materials with Well-Defined Structures, will present three papers, individually and with others including co-editor Steven Overbury. Dr. Wu is a Research & Development Staff member at Chemical Science Division and Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in Tennessee. Dr. Overbury is currently a member of the Distinguished Research Staff and leads the Surface Chemistry and Heterogeneous Catalysis group within the Chemical Sciences Division at ORNL.
The books are available on the Elsevier Store and on ScienceDirect, Elsevier's full-text scientific database offering journal articles and book chapters from over 2,500 peer-reviewed journals and more than 33,000 book titles.
