DALLAS, June 26, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Texas Society of CPAs (TSCPA), a professional organization representing Texas CPAs, officially launches its centennial anniversary celebration at their annual meeting in Dallas on June 26-27. This milestone recognizes the 100-year anniversary of TSCPA and celebrates accounting as a certified and licensed profession in the state of Texas for the past century.
"TSCPA, and the CPA profession, have been able to reach this 100-year milestone because of public trust and integrity – key qualities of this profession," said John Sharbaugh, CEO of TSCPA. "It's important to recognize those CPAs who have spent a century creating a profession committed to ethics, competence and the public good."
The Texas Legislature created the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy in 1915 as an essential regulatory agency to oversee the examination and certification of accountants in Texas, ensuring they possessed a high level of expertise. That same year, TSCPA was created and held its first meeting in Fort Worth with 16 members. Today, TSCPA has 20 chapters across the state, with a membership of nearly 28,000 members.
"We are 100 years strong and growing, and it's an honor to celebrate the milestones and individuals who have significantly contributed to our profession and have sustained this long-lived organization," said TSCPA Chairman Allyson B. Baumeister, CPA.
The CPA designation is one of the most widely recognized and highly trusted professional designations in the business world. CPAs are distinguished from other finance professionals by stringent qualification and licensing requirements. They must meet continuing education requirements, undergo peer review, and are held to a high level of accountability for their ethical conduct and professionalism.
"The 100 years of its historical success are accredited to ever-changing technology, the strength of our ethical standards, and notably, those individuals who battled to define and protect our professional identity for a century," said TSCPA Managing Director of Regulation & Legislation Bob Owen, CPA.
TSCPA is hosting its annual meeting on June 26-27 at the Westin Galleria, located at 13340 Dallas Parkway, Dallas, TX 75240. Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, U.S. Representative K. Mike Conoway, CPA, U.S. Representative John Otto, CPA, AICPA President and CEO Barry Melancon, CPA, CGMA will speak during the invitation-only event and celebration.
