Canada's Nurses hold events to coincide with Council of the Federation meetings on July 15-17, 2015, in St. John's, NL

ST. JOHN'S, July 14, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) will be in St. John's during the Council of the Federation Meeting July 15-17, 2015. The CFNU will be discussing the future of health care directly with provincial and territorial premiers during a closed session at the Council of the Federation.

The CFNU President Linda Silas and representatives of Canada's provincial nurses unions will be present and available for comment in St. John's during the Council of the Federation meetings.

On July16 at 10am in The Narrows, Sheraton Hotel, Economist Hugh Mackenzie and former Parliamentary Budget Officer Kevin Page will be available to discuss a new report outlining the impacts of reduced federal transfers on provincial health budgets.

The Canadian Federation of Nurses Unions (CFNU) is Canada's largest nurses' organization representing close to 200,000 nurses and student nurses. The CFNU has been advocating for national discussions on key health priorities, such as a national prescription drug plan, a comprehensive approach to long-term and continuing care, greater attention to health human resources, and federal government engagement on the future of public health care.
