The tranSMART Foundation Continues to Expand Membership

Abbvie, BT Global Services, DExStR, IO Informatics, Philips, Rancho Biosciences, and Thomson Reuters Join the Foundation to Help Advance Translational Medicine Research

WAKEFIELD, MA--(Marketwired - Aug 17, 2015) -  The tranSMART Foundation, a non-profit organization providing a global, open-source knowledge management platform for scientists to share pre-competitive translational research data, today announced that seven new life sciences and technology organizations have become members in the first half of 2015. These industry-leading companies join more than two dozen organizations that have not only made substantial financial commitments by joining the Foundation's Membership Program, but also valued contributions to the tranSMART community, the enhancement of the tranSMART open-source platform and to the advancement of translational medicine research.

"The addition of these new member organizations is testament to the value the tranSMART platform is providing the industry," said tranSMART Foundation CEO Keith Elliston, PhD. "Each of our members is able to contribute in their own way, whether it's providing the technology or expertise necessary to continue to improve the platform or sharing pre-competitive research datasets to be leveraged by other life science organizations around the world. We appreciate every contribution that helps enable the effective sharing, integration, standardization, and analysis of translational research data."

Abbvie, BT Global Services (a division of BT Group), DExStR, IO Informatics, Philips, Rancho Biosciences, and Thomson Reuters have all joined as Silver Members. Each of these organizations have made a minimum investment of $5,000 to $20,000 to help fund the Foundation's operations. They also have the opportunity to submit a representative to a pool of candidates to be elected the Foundation's board, and can nominate one individual to one of the Foundation's 3C's (Code, Content and Community) committees.

These new members join an elite group of life sciences and technology organizations as Foundation members, including:

Gold: ConvergeHEALTH by Deloitte, Oracle, PerkinElmer, Pfizer, Roche, Sanofi, Takeda, and the University of Michigan
Silver: ARLION, AssureRx, the Hyve, Institute for Systems Biology, Johns Hopkins University, and One Mind
Affiliate: Elevada, Harvard University and IDBS
