ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa., Aug. 17, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, indoor sport and contract flooring markets, today announced that Elizabethtown College has chosen the Mondo Super X 720 surface for its new outdoor track.
Elizabethtown College is installing an eight-lane, 400-meter track, and the Super X 720 surface also will cover the long jump/triple jump, high jump and pole vault areas of its track and field facility.
"Athletes who have competed on Mondo know it runs fast," said Brian Falk, Elizabethtown's director of cross country and track and field. "It's an awesome surface—there's no nicer track and our athletes like it best. In addition, we know our Mondo track will last longer than a poured surface would have."
The college, located in Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, ordered a track with alternating royal and light blue lanes along with gray exchange zones to showcase its school colors of royal blue and gray. "It will look spectacular when it's done," Falk said.
Miller Flooring Company, a general contractor and a Mondo dealer based in Westchester, Pennsylvania, will install the Mondo surface. Installation is scheduled to be complete in August.
Mondo's Super X 720 track surface combines the backing of Mondotrack and the wear layer of the company's Super X Performance track which are vulcanized together to form one continuous, seamless piece of material that delivers exceptional traction, durability, drainage and safety. The backing provides exceptional shock absorbency and energy return, which further helps the performance layer increase athletes' comfort and enables them to achieve faster times than when running on other surfaces.
Other venues in the U.S. with the Super X 720 surface include Drake Stadium at UCLA; Hornet Stadium at Sacramento State (California), which hosted the 2014 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships; John McDonnell Field at University of Arkansas (Fayetteville); and the Vanderbilt Student Rec Center at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee).
