NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Sep 1, 2015) - Best Seller TV, one of the top online business shows on C-Suite TV, has announced their broadcast episodes for the month of September. Best Seller TV will feature in-depth interviews with three leading business authors: Linda Kaplan-Thaler, author of Grit to Great: How Perseverance Passion and Pluck Take You From Ordinary to Extraordinary, Ruth K. Ross, author of Coming Alive: The Journey to Reengage Your Life and Career, and Doug Devitre, author of Screen to Screen Selling: How To Increase Sales, Productivity and Customer Experience With The Latest Technology.
Linda Kaplan-Thaler, author of Grit to Great: How Perseverance Passion and Pluck Take You From Ordinary to Extraordinary explains what 'grit' is and why is it important to have it. According to Kaplan Thaler, 'grit' is an acronym for Guts, Resilience, Initiative, Tenacity and the good thing is anyone can develop it -- at any point in their lives. Today's greats weren't born great -- Michael Jordan didn't make his basketball team in high school; Steven Spielberg didn't get into film school. Passion and tenacity are the reasons they made it big and it's never too late to reinvent yourself and find your 'grit.'
Kaplan Thaler stresses the importance of solving the problem of today. She argues that people tend to dream of success and sometimes they lose perspective by thinking long-term instead of focusing on what's right in front of them. Work for it now, be tenacious and your big dreams will come in due time. Just because it's not happening now, doesn't mean it won't happen at all. Some people might not be the most talented at what they do, but don't let anyone else outwork you.
Linda Kaplan Thaler is responsible for some of America's most famous, advertising campaigns in the industry, including the Aflac duck quack heard round the world and the daring "Yes, Yes, Yes" for Clairol Herbal Essences... "I Don't Wanna Grow Up, I'm a Toys 'R' Us Kid" (Toys 'R' Us); "Kodak Moments" (Eastman Kodak).
In her book, Coming Alive: The Journey to Reengage Your Life and Career, Ross talks about her personal decision to leave her corporate job in Human Resources after a thirty-year career as she was able to self-diagnose her disengagement in the workplace. She cites a Gallup poll putting employee disengagement at 87% globally -- 68.5% in the U.S. alone, but what is engagement? It's how connected a person is to the work they do and how connected they are to the vision, mission and purpose of what the company does. Employee engagement equals passion.
Ross also states the different levels of disengagement, caused by a number of factors, such as frustration. When employees are somewhat connected to their work, they are known as "fence sitters," meaning that at a moment's notice they can be fully present or fully absent. Those who are vocally and actively disengaged and try to get others to be disengaged as well are known as saboteurs. However, this problem is not exclusive to employees. Managers can also become disengaged and they'll have a hard time turning things around with their employees when the problem is prevalent at the top. Companies can turn it around, but they need to acknowledge the problem first. Bosses need to understand where their employees are on the spectrum and talking to their employees goes a long way in turning things around. Ross' adage is, "if you're a dead battery, you can't charge others."
When it comes to selling, face-to-face is always best. Looking someone in the eye is still the best option as it establishes trust at a high level. Times have changed and so have sales techniques, and screen-to-screen selling has become a sign of the times. Doug Devitre, author of Screen to Screen Selling: How To Increase Sales, Productivity and Customer Experience With The Latest Technology says the book is a checklist that isn't just measurable, but actionable. Readers can take a look at a specific part they need and create the most results in the least amount of time.
From iPhones and iPads, to laptops and watches, almost everyone has a screen they use on a regular basis; so sales professionals are adapting their techniques to fit the technology. The building blocks go from the top down -- from c-suite executives to customer service professionals; however, the end goal remains the same. Executives need to be able to make quick decisions, especially with dynamic changes in the marketplace. Sales managers are also trying to coach sales professionals into increasing meetings and client contacts and whereas geographical constraints used to be a big obstacle, because of technology, this is less of an issue today.
