ATLANTA, Sept. 1, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Square 1 Bank, the premier banking partner to entrepreneurs and the venture capital community, today announced that it has strengthened its Mid-Atlantic South team with the addition of new hire Ned Hill as senior vice president and managing director for its Atlanta market. In this role, Ned will spearhead the opening of Square 1's newest office and expand the Bank's footprint in the southeast.
"Since we opened the bank over 10 years ago, Atlanta has been a great proving ground for Square 1's products, services and vision," said Peter Meath, founder and managing director of Square 1 Bank's Mid-Atlantic South region. "We have searched for many years to find the right person to lead our efforts in this market, and we are very excited to have Ned join the team. He brings vast experience and talents that will drive Square 1's reach in Atlanta and surrounding markets."
Ned comes to Square 1 with over 25 years of experience as an operator, consultant and investor in technology companies. For the past 15 years, Ned has been a venture capitalist, most recently as a partner with Houston-based Mercury Fund (formerly DFJ Mercury), a seed and early-stage venture capital firm with over $200 million under management. Prior to Mercury, Ned was a partner with venture capital firm Sternhill Partners. While in Texas, Ned served on the board of the Texas Venture Capital Association and the Rice (University) Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship, and served as adjunct professor at Rice's Jones School of Business where he co-developed and taught an MBA class on venture capital. Ned was also a mentor with seed accelerators TechStars Cloud (San Antonio), TechStars Austin and Surge (Houston).
Before entering the venture capital space, Ned held roles with various companies including BellSouth Internet Services in Atlanta and McKinsey & Company in Atlanta and Charlotte. Ned was first exposed to startups and entrepreneurs as part of BroadBand Technologies, a telecom equipment startup based in Research Triangle Park, NC, that went public in 1993. Ned earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University and an MBA from the Amos Tuck School at Dartmouth College, where he was named an Edward Tuck Scholar and served as class president.
"Having spent the last 15 years working with entrepreneurs and helping them succeed, I am pleased to be joining such a great and like-minded team at Square 1," said Hill. "I am particularly excited to start and lead our effort in Atlanta. The entrepreneurial spirit is incredibly strong here and, with Square 1's commitment, I look forward to helping build Atlanta into one of the top ecosystems for technology start-ups."
