Doheny Eye Institute Elects Two Members To Board Of Directors


LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwired - Sep 23, 2015) - Doheny Eye Institute, a top-ranked nonprofit organization dedicated to furthering the conservation, improvement and restoration of human eyesight since 1947, is pleased to announced the election of Dr. Robert K. Maloney and Mr. Nelson C. Rising to the Doheny Eye Institute Board of Directors. Leaders in their respective fields, Dr. Maloney and Mr. Rising bring extensive track records of success and executive board membership experience in the education, medical and real estate industries.

Robert K. Maloney, M.D., M.A., is a Los Angeles-based cataract and refractive surgeon. A former Rhodes Scholar and Summa Cum Laude graduate of Harvard University, Dr. Maloney has made countless contributions to the field of ophthalmology throughout his distinguished career. On the academic side, he has published more than 100 articles, abstracts and reports in professional journals establishing himself as a leading researcher and expert on new technologies for refractive and cataract surgery. He has trained more than 700 surgeons in the use of the Excimer laser, used for eye and vision correction procedures, and personally performed more than 55,000 vision correction surgeries.

Dr. Maloney's numerous personal achievements include becoming the first surgeon in western North America to perform LASIK surgery as part of the original FDA clinical trials; receiving the Lans Distinguished Award from the International Society of Refractive Surgery in recognition of his contributions to the field of refractive surgery; and both the Senior Honor Award and Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for contributions to the Academy.

With more than 40 years of experience, Nelson C. Rising is a renowned authority in the Los Angeles real estate industry. He attended UCLA, where he received his B.A. in Economics and graduated with honors. He then attended UCLA Law School, earning his J.D.

Mr. Rising serves on an array of distinguished boards, including UCLA Stein Eye Institute's Board of Trustees, as well as the Board of Trustees and Executive Committees of the California Institute of Technology and the W.M. Keck Foundation. His extensive record of civic service also includes his role as Chairman Emeritus of the Real Estate Roundtable based in Washington D.C., Chairman of the Grand Avenue Committee in Los Angeles, and former Chairman of the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco.

Since the affiliation was enacted in December 2013, Doheny has strengthened its research and clinical collaboration with UCLA's Stein Eye Institute; upgraded its vision research center; and opened Doheny Eye Center UCLA patient clinics in Arcadia, Orange County and Pasadena, delivering on its goal of advancing vision research, education and patient care.
