Northern Power Systems Power Conversion Solution Demonstrates Traction in Fast Growing Energy Storage Market

BARRE, Vt., Sept. 29, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northern Power Systems (www.northernpower.com) (TSX:NPS), a leading renewable energy technology company with unique power electronics capabilities, announced today an order from a major flow battery manufacturer for its next generation FlexPhase™ power converter. This product platform is specifically engineered to be integrated with energy storage systems, where the complexity of the application requires a more sophisticated power electronics solution that Northern Power excels at delivering.

The FlexPhase power converter provides a full suite of control capabilities to support any energy storage application, including low and zero voltage ride through, voltage and frequency droop control, islanding detection, seamless transition, critical load support/UPS operation, and black start capability, and also offers minimal DC bus ripple.

"Our FlexPhase platform was designed with a unique circuit that yields high performance with less component stress, lower total cost of ownership (TCO) and higher reliability than traditional inverters available in the market today," commented Diego Tebaldi, Senior Director of Global Business Development. "We are pleased to see continued interest in this platform for challenging applications that are beyond the capabilities of many other providers."
Northern Power's FlexPhase bi-directional power converter offers fully customizable architecture, modular design and high efficiency over wide power range making it ideal for any chemistry – Lithium Ion, Nickel Sodium or Flow. Its "microgrid-ready" ability makes it ideal for off-grid as well as grid-tied applications enabling best use of DERs (Distributed Energy Resources).
