TALENTUM                  Press Release     1 October 2015 at 1.30 p.m.

Kati Haapakoski leaving Mediuutiset – Anna Niemelä to become editor-in-chief and managing director

Mediuutiset, Talentum's media outlet for news and current affairs in the healthcare sector, will have a new editor-in-chief and managing director as of 1 January 2016. Kati Haapakoski, who has held the position since August 2011, transfers to Talouselämä magazine and will be replaced by Anna Niemelä. Niemelä began working for Mediuutiset as a journalist in 2006. She has held the position of editorial manager since 2009. Niemelä holds a master's degree in social sciences.

"The healthcare sector is developing very quickly at the moment so this will be an exciting new role for me. Mediuutiset has smart readers who do important work. Our magazine, events and website focus on subjects that interest our readers and we strive to bring the societal significance of these topics to the fore more than ever. Mediuutiset is run by a team of committed experts and it is a pleasure to work alongside them," says Niemelä.

Haapakoski will start in Talouselämä magazine as development manager responsible for commercial collaboration projects and content production in the social and healthcare branch.

"I have worked for Mediuutiset for almost eight years. Last spring, I made the decision that it was time for me to boost my own expertise. Now is also a good time for Mediuutiset to make a change as its operations are built on solid, healthy foundations in all respects. Mediuutiset is the only independent media source in the Finnish healthcare sector. It will stand firm as the need for professionally edited content will only increase in the future," says Haapakoski.

Talentum's Chief Executive Officer, Aarne Aktan, is sad to see Haapakoski step down from managing Mediuutiset.

"Kati's decision is sad for the company but I understand it personally. She took Mediuutiset from making a loss and made it highly profitable, while the media sector as a whole was in the midst of a downturn. Mediuutiset has also strengthened its position as a media source for doctors, decision-makers and other healthcare professionals," Aktan says. "I believe that Anna will continue the development that Kati has set in motion. I am happy that we were able to find a competent new editor-in-chief internally."

Mediuutiset is published by Oy Mediuutiset Ab, half of which is owned by Talentum and half by Bonnier Business Press. The public website of Mediuutiset can be found at mediuutiset.fi. More extensive content can be found on Talentum's Summa service at summa.mediuutiset.fi, along with archives.
