PALO ALTO, CA--(Marketwired - October 27, 2015) - Cooley is proud to celebrate National Pro Bono Week in the United States during the week of October 25-31, 2015. Cooley's lawyers prioritize giving their time and talent to provide representation to those who would not otherwise have access to legal services. More than 600 lawyers contributed nearly 38,000 hours on more than 700 pro bono matters in 2014.
This year, the momentum continues. Cooley has defended the rights of immigrants, helped prisoners secure adequate healthcare, secured asylum for numerous clients who had been persecuted in their home countries, and successfully collaborated with national legal services organizations on a variety of other access to justice issues. In April 2015, the American Bar Association Section of Litigation honored Cooley with the John Minor Wisdom Public Service and Professionalism award; and in early October 2015, the State Bar of California honored a Cooley team based in San Diego with the President's Pro Bono Service award for its work with the ACLU on the class action lawsuit Lopez-Venegas v. Johnson.
"Cooley's collective pro bono efforts are one of the principal ways we live out our values both as lawyers and responsible citizens," said Maureen Alger, Cooley's pro bono partner. "We celebrate National Pro Bono Week at Cooley by recognizing those here at Cooley who have made particularly impressive pro bono contributions and by renewing our firmwide resolve to commit time and resources to increasing access to justice."
