NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - November 17, 2015) - SmartMetric, Inc. (
We have heard a lot of noise of late from a company in Europe who says publicly that they are the world's first biometric credit card. Well we looked into that company's claims and found the following. First its card as seen in development models is thicker than a standard credit card therefore it can't be said to be a real credit or debit card that can work on existing payments cards networks. It does not have an EMV chip. It does not have a working rechargeable energy source. By their own admission it doesn't have a working internal power management system and rechargeable battery. Without these fundamental features it is a false claim to be the world's first working biometric credit or debit card if it can't work on the street outside of an ATM machine, is so thick so as not to conform to industry requirements of a credit card sized card and has no existing working power system that can drive the operation of a card's internal fingerprint scanner, said today SmartMetric's President & CEO, Chaya Hendrick.
We are absolutely elated that after more than a decade of research and development we have been able to achieve electronic miniaturization on the scale we now have allowing us to bring to market a working fully functional credit/debit card that works with EMV chip card readers, has a working internal rechargeable battery and conforms in size and thickness to ISO standards for credit cards. SmartMetric is truly the first in the world with a working card of this type built for today's EMV chip card systems with state of the art electronics developed and engineered by SmartMetric, said Ms. Hendrick.
The SmartMetric biometric payments card solution works with existing chip card readers in retail stores and ATMs without the need for additional hardware or systems at the bank. According to EMVco there are 3.4 billion EMV chip cards now issued around the world. The United States is now changing over in excess of 1 billion credit and debit cards to EMV chip cards throughout the country.
