ATLANTA, Nov. 23, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ScottMadden, Inc., one of North America's leading energy consulting firms, recently released its latest edition of The Energy Industry Update. This semi-annual publication offers our inside view of major events and emerging trends in the energy industry.
This edition of ScottMadden's Energy Industry Update looks at the natural gas industry, in particular how ever-increasing gas resources can find adequate infrastructure to make their way to market.
The Potential Gas Committee, a U.S. group that analyzes potential domestic natural gas resources, continues to raise its estimate of available gas. Shale gas, especially in the Marcellus and Utica formations in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia, remains a significant factor in these ever-increasing estimates. However, a major challenge is developing enough pipeline infrastructure to move these volumes of gas to demand centers.
"A number of projects to move gas out of the Marcellus are under way and expected to be completed over the next few years," said Ed Baker, partner and co-leader of ScottMadden's nuclear and gas practices. "The 'uncorked' gas will likely have knock-on effects on already low natural gas prices, not merely in the Mid-Atlantic, but south and west as well."
