SAN DIEGO, CA--(Marketwired - December 02, 2015) - LightPointe, the leading manufacturer of outdoor wireless bridges for high capacity data backhaul and video transmission, announced that it added an industry first fully integrated street-level remote monitoring feature to its AireLink™ Series of 60 GHz wireless point to point (PtP) radios, and also now offers AES 256 encryption for maximum signal security. The PtP link monitoring feature -- which LightPointe calls AireLink Viewer™ -- utilizes a smartphone or tablet app to remotely communicate with a radio via a fully integrated Bluetooth™ transceiver to reduce the need for installers or service personnel to have to climb a tower or rooftop to review and monitor radio parameters. This new and unique encrypted and password protected remote monitoring feature helps increase the safety of personnel, improves overall link reliability, and can help IT personnel troubleshoot or improve their network. In addition to the new monitoring feature, LightPointe now offers optional AES 256 encryption on its AireLink Series radios, making them ideal for organizations and government agencies requiring maximum data security. LightPointe's implementation of AES 256 is unique in that it operates at full duplex and Gigabit Ethernet line speed. The unique and advanced single clock cycle encryption algorithm allows for real time encryption without measurable latency impact, thus supporting any mission critical real-time application, without sacrificing throughput or latency.
"Being able to remotely monitor an outdoor radio link -- while reducing the need to send technicians up to a rooftop, or having them climb a tower -- is a huge performance, safety, and cost benefit for our customers and integrators," said Dr. Heinz Willebrand, CEO of LightPointe. "By creating a smartphone and tablet app and fully integrating latest generation Bluetooth™ SMART wireless technology into our AireLink Series radios, we've added an industry-first feature which enables street-level radio monitoring for the first time, such as the Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) which is useful during antenna alignment, and the Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) levels which indicate the system throughput. We've made it easy for even non-technical personnel to remotely collect performance and other data using their smartphone or tablet and a highly secure, password protected and encrypted communication channel to a radio. In addition to adding the AireLink Viewer feature, we now offer optional over-the-air real-time AES 256 encryption designed according to NIST FIPS compliance standards. This opens up opportunities for LightPointe's distributors, resellers, and system integrators to sell the AireLink Series to government agencies and organizations in certain countries requiring the highest degree of signal security and high capacity Gigabit transmission."
AireLink 60 GHz wireless millimeter wave radios transmit point to point via a narrow beam, making them ideal for building to building data connectivity, and surveillance video backhaul up to a mile. They also have superb Physical Layer One security, and encryption adds yet another level of security for unsurpassed signal protection.
