SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 4, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Sedgwick LLP is pleased to announce that five prominent San Francisco-based attorneys, nationally recognized for their work in maritime law, joined the firm on January 1, 2016.
Eric Danoff, Andrew Port, James Tamulski, Cheryl Morris and Katharine Essick have joined Sedgwick as partners in the firm's growing maritime practice. The group joined Sedgwick from Emard Danoff Port Tamulski & Walovich LLP, a San Francisco boutique recognized as one of the best maritime practices in the nation by U.S. News – Best Law Firms.
"We are pleased to welcome this exceptional group of maritime lawyers to our firm," said Michael Healy, Chair of Sedgwick. "They bring with them decades of experience advising national and international clients on a variety of maritime-related and other matters, and they share our commitment to outstanding client service, which has been the foundation of our combined interest in having them join our firm."
"We are proud of our reputation and we are excited to join Sedgwick so we can extend the reach and scope of our work for our clients," Port said. "We look forward to the opportunity to grow Sedgwick's maritime practice by offering valuable experience that can help clients navigate complex matters involving this unique area of law. Joining Sedgwick also provides us with the ability to expand the services we can offer our clients – notably a deep trial bench in virtually every area of the law, and a larger geographic footprint."
The new Sedgwick partners bring with them a breadth of knowledge and experience in maritime law ranging from the defense of personal injury and wrongful death claims by seamen, longshoremen and passengers to casualty work including collisions, pollution and groundings. Collectively, the group has represented more than 50 shipowners in asbestos, benzene, hearing loss and other occupational disease litigation. In addition, they have handled charter party disputes, vessel finance, cargo claims, sexual assault matters, Longshore and Harbor Worker's Compensation Act issues, stowaways, employment actions, defense of passenger claims, Customs work, drafting of bills of lading and charter parties, and a variety of transactional work.
The new partners have experience in representing numerous shipping interests and marine insurers. They have represented both insurers and their insureds in maritime and non-maritime matters, which will further strengthen Sedgwick's internationally recognized insurance capabilities. In addition to their maritime clients, the attorneys have represented a variety of other clients, including product manufacturers, small businesses, individuals and governmental entities, in many shore-based areas of the law.
