AUSTIN, TX--(Marketwired - January 05, 2016) - Stratfor today announced that Jon Sather, a 25-year veteran of the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), has joined the private intelligence and advisory firm as its Chief Intelligence Officer. Sather's experience leading global teams engaged in complex human and technical intelligence operations will help reinforce Stratfor's international intelligence gathering, research and industry-leading geopolitical analysis.
"Jon comes to us with more than two decades of experience confronting global challenges in environments of high geopolitical and organizational risk," said Stratfor President and CEO Shea Morenz. "That insight will now provide our clients and readers a strategic advantage as they navigate an increasingly complicated world."
At the CIA, Sather worked as part of the senior leadership team directing worldwide operations. Prior to retiring in 2015, he served as director of the CIA Counterproliferation Center, the group charged with countering efforts by U.S. adversaries to acquire or proliferate nuclear, chemical and biological weapons. Previous roles within the CIA include chief of targeting with Worldwide Technical Operations and deputy chief of the Counterintelligence Center, in addition to 10 years of foreign service in Europe, Eurasia and other geopolitically important regions.
"To be a leader in the intelligence and forecasting field, it's vital to have a team that works both effectively and collaboratively at the very highest level," said Sather. "That's precisely the kind of environment I've found here at Stratfor and I look forward to building upon that expertise as we continue to grow and broaden our scope."
As chief intelligence officer, Sather will lead Stratfor's team of dedicated analysts headquartered in Austin, Texas. He will also drive the firm's global intelligence collection efforts with resources in more than 100 countries worldwide as he expands Stratfor's all-source analysis and geopolitical forecasting.
