ST. LOUIS, MO--(Marketwired - January 12, 2016) - Come one, come all! Bi-state nonprofits are urged to visit givestlday.org to register for the St. Louis Community Foundation's third annual Give STL Day, a 24-hour day of online giving to benefit St. Louis-area nonprofits.
This year, Give STL Day will take place on Tuesday, May 3, from midnight to midnight. On that day, thousands of generous St. Louisans will be encouraged to visit GiveSTLDay.org and donate to one or several nonprofits of their choice.
Give STL Day efforts in 2014 and 2015 raised $1.1 million and $2.1 million, respectively, for participating nonprofits. Last year's results represent an 87 percent year-over-year increase. More than 20,260 individual donations were made during last year's effort.
"Since we introduced the Give STL Day concept in 2014, our regional nonprofits and their donors have stepped up and demonstrated their enthusiasm and generosity," said Amelia Bond, president and CEO of the St. Louis Community Foundation. "This year we want to do even more by adding to the number of participating nonprofits, while also generating even greater awareness and participation by local donors."
Last year, more than 790 regional nonprofits signed on for the effort, while 528 participated in 2014. Nonprofits use Give STL Day and its regional recognition to galvanize their donors, attract new ones, and generate awareness of their organizational missions and successes.
How Nonprofits Can Register
Nonprofits should visit givestlday.org and follow the online instructions to register for Give STL Day 2016. Nonprofit registration will close on Monday, April 4, at 3:00 p.m.
Donor Alerts Also Available
As an added service in 2016, individual donors can also visit GiveSTLDay.org and sign up for "donor alerts," which will generate helpful Give STL Day reminders and links as the May 3 date approaches.
Part of National Giving Effort
As it has before, Give STL Day will also coincide with Give Local America, a national initiative undertaken by hundreds of community foundations across the country.
Last year, Give Local America, generated approximately 375,000 individual gifts and raised more than $68 million for more than 9,000 nonprofits across the country. It was again one of the largest giving days in our nation's history.
Of local interest, according to the Give Local America leaderboard, St. Louis' own Stray Rescue's 790 individual gifts ranked among the top 10 nonprofits nationally in terms of the total number of gifts received.
"Give STL Day and Give Local America offer all of us a special opportunity to say thank you to the many nonprofits that enrich our communities, provide needed services, and tackle difficult community challenges," Bond added. "Together with our St. Louis-area nonprofits, we've had two outstanding events, but I believe our 2016 outing -- our third -- will be the charm!"
