NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - February 04, 2016) - Shema Kolainu - Hear Our Voices, the international research and educational organization dedicated to the support and education of individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) held its free workshop at the iconic midtown Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City on Tuesday. February's workshop focused on understanding sensory issues that affect individuals on the autistic spectrum. Tuesday's program was aimed at susceptible individuals, their families; and therapists, professors, and other health care professionals.
Acclaimed author and Assistant Professor at Adelphi University discussed biomedical, behavioral, educational/developmental, and sensory intervention techniques which, when properly applied enable autistic population achieve significant success. District 7 - New York City Council Member, Mr. Mark Levine, funder of the Autism initiative, remarked "Shema Kolainu's commitment to providing each child individualized care is a model for how we can help ensure children with Autism can reach their highest potential." He continued, "I'm proud to support Shema Kolainu, which works every day to build a New York that serves all New Yorkers, including those who are most vulnerable."
Sensory issues cannot only be dangerous, are often undetectable. Hence, Dr. Shore illustrated how environmental factors can also benefit the general population as well. He stressed, "It is time we transition from a deficit model of autism to an abilities based model. We need to ask 'what can the person with autism do' and start from there."
