ATLANTA, GA--(Marketwired - February 09, 2016) - Aegex Technologies LLC has delivered the world's first Windows 10 enterprise tablet to be globally certified for use in the most hazardous industrial environments worldwide.
Aegex's intrinsically safe, Windows 10, Intel-based tablet, has gained certification for UL 913 Class 1 Division 1 explosive areas of hazardous locations in the United States and CSA 22.2 in Canada. The device is also certified for ATEX and IECEx Zone 1 areas internationally throughout Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific.
These approvals make the Aegex10 Intrinsically Safe tablet the first Windows 10 enterprise device to hold global intrinsic safety certifications for HazLoc operations worldwide, where high concentrations of flammable gases, vapors or dusts are likely to occur in normal operation.
The Aegex tablets are the first to bring Windows 10 capabilities into industries such as oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical and others that operate highly explosive environments. While most mobile devices are not permitted in highly volatile zones of hazardous locations because they could cause a spark, Aegex's 10.1-inch tablets are certified intrinsically safe, or incapable of igniting an explosion.
"The world now has a uniform platform that allows personnel in the most hazardous environments to finally reap the benefits of cloud connectivity and real-time data analytics," said Keith Cowan, Aegex's Board Chairman. "Introducing Windows 10 into hazardous locations is a game changer for industries across the globe in terms of boosting efficiency and productivity, and protecting assets and production facilities from failure and risk of loss."
Aegex10 Intrinsically Safe tablets synchronize with an organization's Internet of Things to allow users to transmit real-time data from within the most hazardous zones of their operations. Such cloud-based connectivity improves efficiency and lowers risk, resulting in decreased downtime and optimized operations.
With a uniform platform and Intel architecture, the devices are customizable for any team member in a HazLoc operation, from personnel in explosive zones to their managers who are off-site. In addition to running enterprise programs such as Microsoft Azure, Office and Outlook, customers can select task-specific applications and accessories from the Aegex portfolio to tailor the tablets for their particular workforce needs.
All equipment to be used in explosive atmospheres in the U.S. and the Americas must be certified by United Laboratories (UL) or other internationally recognized certification agency to ensure safety. The CSA Group provides certification and standards development in Canada. Devices must comply with the ATEX Directive in order to be sold into the European Union. For other global regions, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) publishes international standards for all electrical, electronic and related technologies.
