Cooley Launches European Digital Media Practice in London With Former Miniclip GC Brian Chadwick

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM --(Marketwired - March 10, 2016) - Cooley is further expanding its London office with the addition of Brian Chadwick, former general counsel and director at mobile games company Miniclip, which recently completed a majority sale to China-based global games giant Tencent. Chadwick will spearhead Cooley's digital media, entertainment and games practice out of the UK and add to Cooley's global dominance in tech.

"I am thrilled that Brian is joining us," said Justin Stock, managing partner of Cooley's London office. "His experience in the digital media and games industry will diversify and expand our capabilities in this dynamic sector, complementing Cooley's existing market-leading US capabilities."

A leader at Miniclip since 2008, Chadwick oversaw all legal, regulatory and structural aspects of the company's global expansion and incorporation. As a director, Chadwick helped Miniclip make the successful transition from web-based games publisher to leading mobile games developer, with global smash hits including 8 Ball Pool and Agar.io. Prior to Miniclip, Chadwick founded and led the London corporate practice of UK law firm Michelmores. He has 17 years of experience as a corporate and transactional lawyer, including several years with McDermott, Will & Emery and Ashurst.

"No other law firm offers what Cooley does in the digital media, entertainment and games sector," Chadwick said. "Combining my experience with Cooley's incredible know-how in this fast-moving sector will lead to highly attractive opportunities for clients keen to build and extend their competitive advantage and global reach organically and through various channels."

Chadwick will add core corporate, operational and strategic capabilities in the digital games industry to Cooley's long-established US digital media leadership. Cooley's digital media and entertainment lawyers work with clients on media procurement and distribution programs, especially regarding video and music technologies, such as video transcoding software, VOD software and hardware, media network services, video advertising and content distribution via satellite. The cross-functional industry group works closely with the firm's technology transactions, trademark and other practice groups, leading the way in the licensing and protection of IP in the digital media space.

In addition to Chadwick, this year Cooley has also announced the arrival in London of white collar crime litigation partner Louise Delahunty from Sullivan & Cromwell and finance partner John Clark from Mayer Brown.
