LIMA, PERU--(Marketwired - Mar 22, 2016) - Aconex Limited (
Obrainsa is a Peruvian company founded in 2000 that is dedicated to engineering and construction projects in the public and private sectors. Projects throughout Peru include roads, ports, water infrastructure, sanitation, earthworks, and a wide range of buildings and real estate developments. Obrainsa is one of the fastest growing companies in the sector, due to the strength of its professional and technical staff, as well as its high standards of efficiency and quality.
The need to manage large volumes of documents and distribute them efficiently across a project team of 215 people representing 15 organizations led Obrainsa to select Aconex for the five projects, which have a total value of nearly US$100 million. Four of the projects are summarized below.
Cayetano Heredia University
Founded in 1961, Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia (UPCH) is one of the top medical schools in Peru. Obrainsa is currently managing a major expansion of the university's Lima campus, which includes three distinct projects. A three-level, below-ground parking facility will provide 500 much-needed parking spaces for students, faculty and visitors. Also under construction is a six-story, 2,730-square meter nursing building scheduled for completion in late 2017 and a five-story, 2,240-square meter research building to be delivered in March 2016.
"The unique requirements of a medical and research facility add complexity to the project far beyond that of a traditional commercial structure," said Luis Alfredo Garcia, organizational development and IT manager at Obrainsa. "Aconex has enabled us to better manage this complexity and keep construction on track."
Miraflores Parking Garage
To help alleviate a serious shortage of parking spaces in the upscale Lima suburb of Miraflores, Obrainsa was granted a concession to finance, design, construct, operate, and maintain an underground, three-level garage. The US$7.6-million project, to be completed in September 2016, will provide space for 573 vehicles.
"We have implemented Aconex Connected BIM to facilitate the sharing of documents and designs and the gathering of comments," said Mr. Garcia. "We believe that allowing design and construction teams to collaborate on 3D models will improve project delivery and produce a higher-quality asset."
Reduced Risk, Improved Security
According to Mr. Garcia, extensive experience on multiple projects has proven the value of Aconex.
"Aconex has benefited Obrainsa in a number of ways," he said. "The timely distribution of over 300 documents per project per month across the teams has streamlined the review and approval process. Team members can respond to questions and requests very quickly. Storing documents in the cloud has reduced the risk of data loss and eliminated the need for file sharing and expensive file servers, while minimizing the requirement for hard copies and emails. As a result, we are gradually migrating all of our active projects to the Aconex platform."
"Obrainsa is involved with many high-profile projects that are being watched closely throughout Peru," said Frank Kopas, general manager of the Americas at Aconex. "We are pleased that this innovative firm has partnered with Aconex to deliver its projects, and we look forward to supporting their continued success."
