TAIPEI, TAIWAN--(Marketwired - Apr 20, 2016) - In order to promote Taipei City's MICE industry, the Taipei City Government Department of Information and Tourism (DOIT) has chosen "Taipei Makes Perfection" as its theme while participating in this year's IMEX show in Germany. Taipei has become one of Asia's most representative MICE cities. It has just recently served as host for Velo-city Global 2016, successfully raising the "Taipei Friendly City" international image and tourism attractiveness, and next year the city will serve as stage for the high-profile 2017 Summer Universiade, drawing global attention. DOIT is actively showcasing Taipei City's mature hard-infrastructure facilities and soft-infrastructure services for foreign enterprises and buyers, making the city a hot focus of inquiry among international MICE-industry professionals at the exhibition.
Seeking to better understand global MICE-industry trends, and to make Taipei an Asia MICE leader, in February this year DOIT attended the Asian Federation of Exhibition & Convention Associations (AFECA) Board Meeting and the UFI (The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry) Open Seminar in Asia in Chiang Mai, Thailand, where discussions were focused on mobile technology marketing trends. During these gatherings it was learned that in the fierce competition of the exhibition industry, how to use electronic devices and other platforms to attract exhibitors, buyers, and visitors is key.
The building of smart cities is an important global trend. Taipei City early on took the initiative, and in addition to targeting foreign nationals visiting Taipei for international MICE events, providing free Taipei Free Public W-Fi Access accounts, and in this year's second phase for our MICE-sponsorship program DOIT has specially added a new digitized smart facilities sponsorship category. And building on our experience attending exhibitions in past years, we are focused on the issues of greatest concern for international buyers (notably transportation, visas, venues, information on important events/activities, etc.), and have created Taipei MICE EDM, which will be provided to participants post-show. This also complements Taipei's commitment to sustainable business practices, and the development of green MICE practices. As well, interactive AR imaging technology is being used in our pavilion and assembly image advertising, creating strong Taipei impressions among show attendees.
Other highlights on offer at the Taipei display area is a cultural-creative foosball table, using a favorite sport with foreigners -- football/soccer -- to create a spirited and homey atmosphere. Interactive experiential marketing is being used to promote the 2017 Summer Universiade, generating significant on-site interest. As well, a delicious supply of championship Taipei souvenir items -- Taipei sweet treats and cultural-creative premium-tea offerings -- are being shared with guests, along with such other iconic Taipei souvenir creations as Taipei old-city postcards, Taipei-imagery bags, and memento magnets. These items are at the same time fun and meaningful expressions of Taipei's unique fusion of traditional and modern cultural elements.
Down the road, in addition to the 2017 Summer Universiade, the Taiwan Rotary Club Association has won the right to host the 2021 Rotary International Convention in the city. This gathering is expected to bring together approximately 22,000 foreign and 18,000 local members, from more than 200 countries. Renowned international events of all type are set to hit the stage in Taipei, one after another, putting the city under the global spotlight and engendering powerful international visibility. "Taipei Makes Perfection" is no mere slogan -- it is the heartfelt opinion that forms in the mind of each and every visitor to the city.
