Vocera Earns Important Wireless Security Certification for the B3000n Communication Badge

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 21, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Vocera Communications, Inc. (NYSE:VCRA), the leading healthcare communications company, today announced it received Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 Certification for the Vocera® B3000n Communication Badge, the latest hands-free, voice controlled communication device that provides instant wireless connectivity via the 2.4GHz and 5GHz Wi-Fi frequencies.

FIPS 140-2 certification adds to Vocera’s industry-leading security standards and assures users of the B3000n Communication Badge that the device has passed rigorous testing and validation for secure communication. This certification is a requirement by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Veterans Administration (VA) to deploy Vocera solutions across their networks. The B3000 Communication Badge received FIPS 140-2 Certification in 2014, and the Vocera Communication Platform was awarded an Authority to Operate (ATO) in 2015.

With this recent FIPS 140-2 certification, Vocera is on track to add the B3000n Communication Badge to its solutions offering for VA and DoD customers, including Evans Army Community Hospital in Colorado.

“Secure and reliable communication is critical to patient care and multi-service collaborative efforts,” said Lieutenant Colonel Francisco Dominicci, Chief Information Officer and Director of Health IT for the Colorado Springs Military Health System. “That’s why it’s important for mobile healthcare technology to meet the gold standard of FIPS 140-2 validation. Care team members can efficiently and effectively do their jobs knowing that sensitive information is being protected.”

To date, Vocera has deployed its communication platform in more than 40 VA locations nationwide and more than 20 DoD facilities worldwide.

“Vocera continues to deliver on its promise of a scalable and secure communications platform with the award of yet another security and industry compliance certification. We are relentless in our mission to safeguard our customers and protect the privacy of the patients they serve,” said Gautam M. Shah, vice president of product management at Vocera. “The combination of a FIPS-approved badge and an ATO-certified communication platform provides assurance to the VA, DoD and other customers that the Vocera Communication Platform meets high-level security standards required to protect patient data.”
