HOUSTON, May 3, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- It is now easier for adults who never finished college to complete a degree at the University of St. Thomas Houston. The Office of Undergraduate Admissions can assist students with a bachelor's degree completion program for adult learners who are 25 years or older and have at least two years of college credit or 60 credits.
The Adult Degree Completion Program offers students a bachelor's in Business, General Studies, Liberal Arts, Early Education or Criminology, Law and Society.
The program is convenient for working adults who are interested in finishing their education by providing flexible scheduling options, including day, night, accelerated and online classes.
Designed for adult learners who are returning to college after a long absence, the program can be completed in two years or less.
In the United States, the number of adult learners returning to higher education, particularly for continuing education, has been rapidly increasing. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, "In recent years, the percentage increase in the number of students age 25 and over has been larger than the percentage increase in the number of younger students, and this pattern is expected to continue." By 2020, the percentage of enrollments for students 25 and older is projected to increase by 20 percent over 2010.
The transition back to school can be a tough one, but Phil Butcher, director of transfer admissions and veteran services, knows how important completing a college degree can be for people.
"The types of people we have coming into this program are people who want to take steps to move forward in their lives," Butcher said. "Maybe they want a new job or need a degree to advance within their company; whatever it is, we want to make sure the process is as seamless as possible."
The degree is also affordable. Tuition scholarships, financial aid and payment plans are available for eligible students.
Scholarship opportunities are available for both full and part-time students. Adult Degree Completion students can qualify for more than $12,000 per year in scholarships.
Applications are being accepted until July 15 for the fall semester.
