Media Advisory: Chief Thomas to Speak at Burrard Inlet Science Symposium

VANCOUVER, BC and MUSQUEAM, SQUAMISH and TSLEIL-WAUTUTH TERRITORY--(Marketwired - May 18, 2016) -  Chief Maureen Thomas of the Tsleil-Waututh Nation will be introducing an exciting, new environmental stewardship initiative tomorrow morning at the opening of the Burrard Inlet Science Symposium. Following the opening remarks, participants at the symposium will review issues related to the current health and integrity of Burrard Inlet and discuss strategies for environmental improvement.

WHAT: The Burrard Inlet Science Symposium is a day-long event organized by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation. We have invited local, provincial, federal, and academic institutions, and ENGOs to attend the day and end it with a pledge to work diligently with us to develop a better plan to improve environmental conditions in Burrard Inlet.

The event, which falls on the same day that the National Energy Board (NEB) is set to announce its recommendations regarding the proposed Kinder Morgan Trans Mountain pipeline, is intended to foster discussion and develop a shared vision for environmental stewardship of the Inlet.
