NeighborWorks America Ranks Second Among Builders of Affordable Homes in Latest Builder List

Holds No. 65 Position Overall on Builder100 List

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - June 03, 2016) -  Today NeighborWorks America announced that it was named one of the nation's largest builders of affordable homes, according to the Builder 100 list. NeighborWorks America, representing the NeighborWorks network, was ranked No. 2 among builders specializing in affordable for-sale homes. NeighborWorks organizations build homes in suburban, rural and urban markets. For the seventh year, NeighborWorks America ranked among the top 100 of all homebuilders, holding the No. 65 place for 2015 with 634 closings. All of the homes built by the NeighborWorks network are classified as affordable.

Homebuilding in the United States last year was filled with ups and downs, but the trajectory was mostly positive, including for builders of entry level homes, the market operated in by NeighborWorks. NeighborWorks network members operating throughout the country are committed to delivering affordable, attractive and energy efficient homes for buyers with low- and moderate-incomes.

"The single-family home building market is regaining momentum resulting in price escalation in many markets. NeighborWorks sold more homes in 2015 than the year before, a demonstration of demand for entry-level, affordable homes by our informed home buying customers," said Tom Deyo, vice president of real estate programs at NeighborWorks America.

"The success of NeighborWorks builders in 2015 and in the medium term is being driven by knowing our customers' needs and meeting their purchase price requirements. That means NeighborWorks builders are paying close attention to the size of the homes they build, end-to-end cost control techniques, and to energy efficiency in the final product," explained Deyo. "These things combined lead to a product that our customers want and fits within their budgets."

Deyo added that delivering affordable homes for purchase is becoming more challenging. "NeighborWorks builders are facing the same increase in land, material and labor costs as other builders. Even so, our builders adjust to find methods to continue to provide affordable new homes from seeking out infill sites to smaller footprints to including looking at factory-built housing."

As part of its continuum of support to the homebuyer business line, NeighborWorks organizations offer services to create informed prospective homebuyers, including pre-and post-purchase homebuyer education, and diverse lending options -- in order to help consumers achieve their dream of long-term, affordable homeownership.
